Description:

Update: 7/11/2012 We cannot believe Beau is still here. It must be because his family is still looking for him! He is now almost 9 months old and full of happiness. Beau's adoption fee is $50. Ohh and rickets? what rickets?  That is now just a faded memory.

Update: 3/16/12 Wow.. Beau is looking SOOO much better. It is amazing how quickly his legs have gotten better. He is quite the pup! From here on out, a new family would just have to make sure they feed him puppy food. He is maybe 5 months old right now and, shockingly, he is staying smaller than we believed. He is definitely not going to be the size of a lab. You just have to meet this happy guy. We dare you not to fall in love.

2/14/12 This little boy was saved from our local animal control. Nobody came for him so he was going to be euthanized. He is a happy boy who really just needs his own family. It is obvious that he has not had a very pleasant beginning to his life. Due to a malnourished diet and possibly from a malnourished mom, Beau was born with rickets. We have treated many puppies with rickets so that is not overly concerning. He will require vitamin supplements and a GOOD food regime for awhile until his bones strengthen and grow properly. He is young so we expect a full recovery!!

A little info on his condition:

Puppies with Rickets

Vitamins are crucial for the development of the health of the dog. Very often, the only vitamins that a stray dog absorbs are the ones found on the peel of an apple or an egg yolk found in a trash can. For this reason, when that dog becomes part of your family, you have to provide him all the things he has never had.

Besides the vitamins that , according to the situation and need, the vet will recommend, you have to administer raw grated carrots, orange, grape and tomato juice and apple peel and you ought to avoid overly cooked meals, as cooking reduces the wealth of vitamins and nutrients in the food. If your dog only consumes meat, you'll have to add mineral salts that contain calcium, phosphorus, manganese, iron, zinc, iodine and magnesium. Obviously, the veterinarian must tell you the necessary amounts.
